The Local Government sector in Ireland is made up of 31 Local Authorities and 3 Regional Assemblies. Local Authorities are the closest and most accessible form of Government to the citizen. They have responsibility for the delivery of a wide range of services in their local area, with a focus on making cities, towns and the countryside attractive places to live, work and invest.   An opportunity now exists in Laois County Council for the position of Senior Planner.   Reporting to a Director of Service and / other employee nominated by the Chief Executive, the Senior Planner is a senior position with the Planning Directorate, and is responsible for managing elements of the Planning function and providing a multiplicity of services to Local Authorities. They will be responsible for the efficient management of their prescribed work area within the Planning Directorate, or related function, working closely with elected Councillors to deliver the full range of services and implement local policy decisions.   The successful candidate will:  • hold a qualification in Planning (at least level 8 on the National Framework of Qualifications); • have at least eight years satisfactory relevant  experience in planning;  • possess a high standard of technical training and expertise;   • possess a high standard of administrative and strategic management experience.   Further details of the role are available in the Candidate Information Booklet.   The Public Appointments Service is committed to a policy of equal opportunity and encourage applications under all nine grounds of the Employment Equality Act.
